Why Solar Panels in Northampton Need Cleaning
Northampton is the county town and its housing tells the story of a century of growth. New Town expansion estates from the 1970s onwards spread across Lumbertubs, Round Spinney, Briar Hill, Camp Hill and East and West Hunsbury, and Upton, the newer urban extension, was built with solar panels and green roofs from the start, so plenty of homes there already have arrays. Across NN1 to NN7, thousands of households now generate their own electricity.
The local environment works against those arrays, though. Pitsford Water reservoir to the north holds large numbers of wintering wildfowl, and where there are waterbirds there are droppings, the single worst contaminant for solar glass because they block light in a concentrated patch and bake on hard in the sun. The Nene Valley gravel pits start at Northampton and bring more bird activity, while the M1 at junctions 15, 15A and 16 and the A45 and A508 corridors throw constant traffic grime over rooftops.
Dirt, dust, pollen, moss, lichen and bird droppings build up on the glass and block sunlight from reaching the cells, so the panels generate less electricity. Rain does not clean panels properly. It moves dirt to the bottom edge of each panel, where it dries into a line of grime. And because most domestic arrays are wired in a string, a shaded patch on one panel can drag down the output of the whole string, so a single soiled panel can quietly hold back your entire system.
Our Solar Panel Cleaning Process
Pure water solar panel cleaning, carried out carefully and safely from the ground.
Look Before We Touch
We survey the whole array from ground level first, mapping where the traffic grime and waterbird droppings sit thickest and flagging anything from cracked glass to nesting birds under the frame.
Pure Water, Soft Touch
Mineral-free water runs up the pole to a soft brush and we work the film of grime free panel by panel, with no detergents or chemicals of any kind.
Rinse, Verify, Tidy
The final rinse dries with no spots or streaks, and we confirm every panel is clear before leaving your Northampton property tidy.
Solar Panel Cleaning Across Northampton
Northampton is a big town, and our rounds reach every part of it, from the historic centre to the newest urban extension.
Close to the centre, homes sit among some of the town's best known landmarks, including 78 Derngate, remodelled by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Royal and Derngate theatre, Northampton Museum and Art Gallery with its famous shoe collection, Delapre Abbey, Abington Park and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of only four remaining medieval round churches in England. Families here know Northampton School for Boys, Northampton School for Girls, Weston Favell Academy, Northampton Academy, Caroline Chisholm School, Kingsthorpe College, Northampton High School and Abington Vale Primary School, and homes on the streets around them are part of our regular routes.
The New Town estates each bring their own conditions. Abington, Duston, Kingsthorpe, Far Cotton, Hardingstone and Dallington carry mature gardens and established trees, so pollen and leaf fall are heavy each autumn. Wootton, Collingtree and Moulton sit closer to open country where farmland dust drifts in, and East and West Hunsbury pick up grime from the nearby M1 and A45 corridors. Upton is the interesting one. Because it was designed with solar panels and green roofs from the start, arrays there are common, and their owners are often the most aware of what clean glass means for generation figures.
Daily life runs through the Grosvenor Centre, Weston Favell Centre and Market Square, with Northampton General Hospital, Northampton station, Franklin's Gardens, Sixfields Stadium, the County Ground and the Racecourse all within our working area. If you have been searching for solar panel cleaning near me in Northampton, we cover the whole town and can provide a free, no-obligation quote quickly.
How Often Should You Clean Solar Panels in Northampton?
With wintering wildfowl at Pitsford Water, the Nene Valley gravel pits and constant M1 and A45 traffic grime, we usually recommend twice a year for Northampton homes, particularly those near the reservoir, the river or the motorway. Once a year may be enough on more sheltered estates away from trees, water and main roads. If your generation figures have slipped or you can see a grime line on the glass, book a clean.
